Use this article to learn how cancellation and no-show fees work, where to find your provider's policy, and what to do if you believe you were charged incorrectly.
How Cancellation and No-Show Fees Work
Each Alma provider sets their own cancellation and no-show policy. This includes:
- Whether they charge a cancellation or no-show fee
- How much advance notice is required to cancel
- The amount of any fee
If your provider charges a cancellation or no-show fee, it will appear on your Alma invoice.
| Note: Cancellation and no-show fees are determined by your provider, not Alma. |
Are Cancellation Fees Covered by Insurance?
No. Cancellation and no-show fees are not covered by insurance. If your provider charges one of these fees, you'll be responsible for paying it.
Where Can I Find My Provider's Cancellation Policy?
Your provider should share their cancellation policy with you before care begins. You can also find your provider's cancellation policy in:
- Appointment confirmation and reminder emails
- Your appointment details in the Alma Client Portal
- Your provider's intake or consent paperwork
If you're unsure whether a fee applies, contact your provider before canceling your appointment.
Why Was I Charged?
Providers reserve time specifically for your appointment.
Cancellation policies help protect that reserved time and are a standard part of mental health care. If you cancel after your provider's notice window or miss your appointment, your provider may charge a cancellation or no-show fee according to their policy.
I Think I Was Charged by Mistake
If you believe a cancellation or no-show fee was charged incorrectly:
- Step 1: Contact Your Provider
- Your provider determines whether the fee applies.
- Step 2: Ask Your Provider to Review the Charge
- If your provider determines the fee shouldn't have been charged, they can notify Alma.
- Step 3: Alma Will Update Your Invoice
- Once we receive confirmation from your provider, we'll correct your invoice if needed.
