What to Expect After You Request a Consultation

Self-Scheduled Consultations

Some Alma providers allow you to self-schedule consultation appointments directly from their profile. If you booked a consultation with a provider at a specific time and date, all you have to do is attend the scheduled appointment, though the provider may reach out to you prior to your scheduled call with any questions, or to confirm your insurance.

Once the form has been submitted, you will receive an email notification from Alma confirming the consultation. You will also be informed via email when the consultation is updated, declined, expired, or upcoming. If you can’t find the confirmation email, please check your spam folder or contact support@helloalma.com.

Canceling Your Self-Scheduled Consultation

If for some reason you need to cancel a booked consultation, you can do so via a link in the confirmation email you received immediately after booking. You are able to cancel a consultation at any point in time, but we recommend you do so 24 hours in advance of the appointment.

General Consultation Requests

If you submitted a general consultation request, without indicating a specific time and date, you will have to wait for the provider to review your request.

If the provider accepts your request, you may or may not receive an email notification from Alma (it is up to the provider to choose whether or not to send this notification). You can expect to receive a direct message (text or email) from the provider within 2–3 business days to schedule a time for the consultation.

We encourage our providers to respond to consultation requests within 2–3 business days. Feel free to browse the directory and submit more than one request

The consultation is a great opportunity for you to ask questions and share what brings you to therapy. For more tips and example questions, visit our guide to consultation calls.
