What to Expect After You Request a Consultation

Overview

Finding the right provider for you is important, and we want to help you be as prepared as possible. You may not click with the first provider you meet with, and that’s okay! We recommend scheduling multiple consultations with different providers, because it gives you the opportunity to weigh your options and make a decision you feel good about.

Below you’ll find exactly what you can expect after you request a consultation through Alma. For tips on getting the most out of your consultation call, feel free to browse our Finding the Right Fit - Tips for Consultation Calls article.

Self-Scheduled Consultations

Some Alma providers allow you to self-schedule consultation appointments directly from their profile. If you booked a consultation with a provider at a specific time and date, all you have to do is attend the scheduled appointment, though the provider may reach out to you prior to your scheduled call with any questions, or to confirm your insurance.

Before booking your self-scheduled consultation, please review your contact information and confirm that it is correct. Once the form has been submitted, you will receive an email notification from Alma confirming the consultation. You will also be informed via email when the consultation is updated, declined, expired, or upcoming.

If you can’t find the confirmation email, please check your spam folder or reach out to our team via the Help button in the bottom right-hand corner of the Support Center.

General Consultation Requests

If you submitted a general consultation request, without indicating a specific time and date, you will have to wait for the provider to review your request.

We encourage our providers to respond to consultation requests within 2–3 business days. If the provider accepts your request, you can expect to receive a text or email from them to schedule a time for the consultation.

If you don’t hear back from a provider within the expected 2-3 business days, or if the provider does not accept your request, you’ll receive an email letting you know the request has been canceled. At that point, we recommend returning to our online directory to search for additional providers. There, you can narrow down your search by consultation availability, service type, location, preferred insurance, and other preferences you would like to prioritize in order to find a great fit.

Canceling Your Consultation

If for some reason you need to cancel a booked consultation, you can do so via a link in the confirmation email you received immediately after booking. You are able to cancel a consultation at any point in time, but we recommend you do so 24 hours in advance of the appointment.

If your consultation was not scheduled through Alma and you did not receive a confirmation email, you'll need to reach out to the provider directly via their email or phone.  If you do not have your provider's contact information, please reach out to the Alma team by clicking the Help button in the bottom right corner of the Support Center.
