A Guide to Consultation Requests (CR)

Finding the right provider takes time. We recommend scheduling multiple consultations with different providers, as it may take more than one consultation to find the best fit. If you want to skip the consultation, you can request an appointment directly with a provider who offers direct booking. To learn more see: Direct Appointment Booking.

Self-Scheduled Consultations

Some Alma providers allow you to schedule consultation appointments directly from their profile. You can:

  • Choose a consultation time and date that works for you.

  • After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Alma.

  • You’ll also get email updates if your consultation is updated, declined, expired, or upcoming.

Providers may reach out before your scheduled consultation to confirm details, such as your insurance information.

If you can’t find your confirmation email, check your spam folder or contact us by selecting the Help button in the bottom right of the page.

General Consultation Requests

If you submitted a consultation request without selecting a specific time:

  • Your provider will review your request and decide whether to move forward.
     

  • We encourage providers to respond within 2–3 business days.
     

  • If your request is accepted, you’ll receive an email or text from the provider to schedule your consultation.
     

  • If your request is declined or not accepted within the expected timeframe, you’ll receive an email letting you know that it has been canceled.

Expanded Search for Consultation Requests

If you opted into having your search expanded on the consultation request form, Alma can connect you with additional qualified providers if your initial consultations don't work out.

How it works:

  • Every provider meets your exact criteria to align with what you're looking for
  • Your contact information remains hidden until a provider confirms they'll reach out to schedule a consultation
  • You always decide whether you'd like to move forward with any Alma provider

To opt out: If you've opted into expanded search and would like to opt out, use the link included in your initial consultation request email.

Canceling Your Consultation

If you need to cancel a booked consultation:

  • Use the link in your confirmation email.
     

  • You can cancel at any time, though we recommend doing so at least 24 hours before the appointment.

If your consultation was not scheduled through Alma and you did not receive a confirmation email, contact the provider by phone or email. If you do not have your provider's contact information, you can contact us by selecting the Help button in the bottom right of the page.
