Use this article to understand the charges on your Alma invoice, how to review line items, pay your balance, and download receipts.
If you are using your insurance to cover services with an Alma provider, and your insurance carrier has confirmed you owe a payment responsibility, Alma will automatically send you an invoice for that predetermined payment responsibility after each session.
Review Invoice Charges
You will see specific charges on your invoice. Common items include:
- Session fees based on your insurance or private-pay rate.
- Adjustments or credits from a past invoice.
- Cancellation or no-show fees from your provider.

Pay Your Invoice
Alma sends an invoice after each session.
Acceptable Payment Methods
You can pay for your invoice using:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Flexible Spending Account (FSA) card and Health Savings Account (HSA) card

Alma does not accept:
- Paper checks
- Cash
- Payment apps or third-party payment services, such as Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App.
| Note: If you pay your provider directly outside of Alma, those payments won't appear in the Alma Client Portal or be reflected in your Alma billing history. Always pay through the payment link in your Alma invoice email to ensure your sessions remain in network. |
Pay an Invoice from Your Email
Step 1: Locate the invoice link
- Open the Alma invoice email.
- Your invoice email includes your provider's name and invoice ID and states:
- "[Provider Name] has sent you an invoice for your recent appointment. Follow the link below to pay online."
- Your invoice email includes your provider's name and invoice ID and states:
- Select the Pay Online Now link.
- Below the Pay Online Now button, you’ll see your invoice ID listed (for example: Invoice abc000). This ID will be formatted as a series of six numbers and letters.
Step 2: Verify your identity
- Enter your phone number.
- If verification fails, contact your provider to confirm the phone number associated with your account.
Step 3: Complete your payment
- Choose the Details button to pay a specific past invoice.
- Enter your payment information.
- Select Submit.
Pay a Specific Invoice
If you have one unpaid invoice, you'll be prompted to pay that invoice after selecting Pay Online Now.
If you have multiple unpaid invoices, you can choose to pay:
- The invoice for your most recent session
- All outstanding invoices at once
- A specific past invoice by selecting Details and choosing the invoice you'd like to pay.
Download Your Receipt (Paid Invoices)
To view paid invoice history, go to your client portal.
Step 1: Access your payment history
- Navigate to the client portal and log in.
- Select Billing.
- Select Payment History.
Step 2: Download your receipt
- Choose the invoice you need.
- Select Download to save a copy.

Why do I have a cancellation fee on my invoice?
Your provider sets their own cancellation policies. If you miss a session or cancel late, your provider may submit a fee. Please reach out to your provider directly to discuss this charge.
Where do I find my invoice ID?
You can find your invoice ID in the Alma invoice email. Look below the Pay Online Now button. The ID appears as a series of six numbers and letters.
What should I do if my invoice is past due?
You can pay the outstanding balance in your client portal
