Use this article to understand what happens if your insurance is out of network with Alma, how you'll pay for sessions, and whether you may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company.
What Does "Out-Of-Network" Mean?
If your provider is out of network with your insurance plan through Alma, your insurance benefits may not apply to your sessions.

What Happens if My Insurance is Out-Of-Network?
If your health plan is not in network with one of Alma's insurance partners, you'll pay your provider's private-pay rate for each session.
Before beginning care, talk with your provider about their private-pay rate, so you both have clear expectations about payment.
For more information about seeking care as a private-pay client, see How to Pay for Therapy Without Insurance Coverage.
Can I Still Use My Out-Of-Network Benefits?
Even if Alma can't bill your insurance directly, your health plan may reimburse you for a portion of your therapy costs through out-of-network benefits.
Contact your insurance company using the phone number on the back of your insurance card to ask:
- Whether your plan includes out-of-network benefits.
- How much you may be reimbursed.
- What documentation you'll need to submit a claim.
Your insurance company determines whether you're eligible for reimbursement.
What Documentation do I Need?
Most insurance companies will require detailed invoices and superbills (i.e., monthly statements of all of the invoices you paid to a provider) to reimburse your expenses. You can submit this documentation directly to your insurance for reimbursement.
As you submit for reimbursement, if you have any questions about your specific plan, call the phone number on the back of your insurance card for further assistance.
